This edition of the Scientific Journal of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (Issue 04) consolidates as a reference for applied research and sustainability. The articles comprising this volume converge on a central theme: the optimization of processes and materials to address modern construction challenges through the scientific rigor of the Civil Engineering Laboratory.Under a circular economy approach, critical research on the utilization of local resources and waste valorization is presented. Standout studies include pumice (pumita) as an aggregate in structural and ultra-lightweight concretes, pozzolanic activation of recycled glass using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to reduce the carbon footprint, and the use of sugarcane molasses as a natural retarding admixture. Advances are also documented in managing precast debris and plastic waste in pervious concretes, balancing mechanical strength and urban resilience. The project section extends beyond the laboratory to tackle socio-economic issues. It highlights the revitalization of León’s Historic Center with the “Cholutequita” Metropolitan Shopping Center, a social architecture model that dignifies informal commerce. In technology transfer, a low-cost 3D-printed labeler for family farming in Argentina is presented, optimizing the local value chain. Finally, this issue celebrates the aesthetic gaze through the I Digital Photography Contest: “Housing and Public Space” and, above all, showcases the investigative strength of the Research Seedbeds, led by Dr. Eddisson Hernández. This research endeavor reaffirms our faculty’s commitment to training professionals who transform technical challenges into sustainable innovations for society.
