La eficiencia en costos del sistema bancario nicaragüense: un enfoque de frontera estocástica

Durante el período 2019-2024, el sistema bancario nicaragüense experimentó una etapa marcada por shocks macroeconómicos y una reconfiguración significativa de la intermediación financiera, caracterizada por cambios en la dinámica del crédito, acumulación de liquidez y composición de activos. Este escenario plantea interrogantes sobre cómo los bancos ajustaron sus estructuras de costos y en qué medida operaron de manera eficiente durante este proceso. Este estudio estima la eficiencia en costos del sistema bancario nicaragüense utilizando un modelo de frontera de costos estocástica con una especificación translog bajo el enfoque de intermediación, asumiendo una distribución de ineficiencia seminormal estimada por máxima verosimilitud. Los resultados muestran que el sistema bancario operó, en promedio, con niveles altos y estables de eficiencia en costos. Los ajustes observados en la composición de los productos financieros y en la asignación de recursos no estuvieron asociados con desviaciones sistemáticas del comportamiento promedio de costos del sistema, lo que sugiere una fuerte capacidad de adaptación operativa ante condiciones macroeconómicas cambiantes.
